Foot Bag Size and Weight Guide: What the Numbers Actually Mean

·5 min read

Most people pick a foot bag based on what's available. That works fine — but if you're buying for a specific person or trying to actually improve, understanding what the specs mean makes a real difference.

Size: How Big Should a Foot Bag Be?

Standard foot bags range from about 1.75 to 2.5 inches in diameter. Most quality bags land around 2 to 2.25 inches.

  • Under 2 inches: More challenging to control, better for experienced freestyle players who want precision.
  • 2–2.25 inches: The sweet spot for circle play and beginners. Predictable flight, easy to control without being forgiving to the point of boring.
  • 2.5+ inches: More surface area, easier to trap and stall, but feels sluggish to experienced players.

Good Kicks bags are 2.25 inches — standard range, solid for all skill levels.

Weight: The Most Underrated Factor

Weight affects flight more than size. A heavier bag travels in a more predictable arc and gives you more reaction time.

  • Under 40g: Too light for most players. Drifts, hard to control, difficult to build technique on.
  • 45–55g: Standard range. Predictable flight, good balance of speed and control. Right for most circle play.
  • 55–65g: Slightly heavier, preferred for deliberate controlled kicks or windy environments.

Good Kicks bags come in at approximately 50g — squarely in the ideal range.

Fill Material

  • Plastic pellets: Most common and reliable. Consistent weight distribution, holds shape well, predictable response. Used in most quality bags including Good Kicks.
  • Sand or rice: Cheap to make, inconsistent distribution, gets heavy when wet. Found in low-end bags.
  • Metal pellets: Heavy, used in training bags. Not for casual play.

Panel Count

More panels equals a rounder bag. Fewer panels equals a more angular shape with less predictable flight.

  • 6-panel: Roughly cube-shaped. Common in cheap bags. Unpredictable flight.
  • 14-panel: Much more spherical. Good for casual play.
  • 32-panel: Nearly perfectly round. Predictable flight, easiest to control and stall. Standard for quality circle play.

Good Kicks bags are 32-panel — the roundest construction at this price point. Shop the collection →
